5 Ways to Relax and Unwind After Work

Stress and anxiety are something that we can’t avoid in our life. We had it at school when we rushed out of the door with a bag full of books and papers, and the times an examination was closer and closer. We still can’t avoid it after we grew up, at work. We try to perform our best at work, and fight that Friday afternoon laziness. Everybody has stress and anxiety, therefore knowing how to cope with it and relax and unwind is extremely for the ability to keep on moving with our lives and our mental health.

We spend a majority of our time on our fulltime job in order to get paid, so we can pay the bills. Work is a significant part of our life. It is our responsibility, and it could bring us happiness as well as and stress and struggles. Knowing how to relax and unwind after work is crucial for being able to become more productive and efficient, and a healthy work-life balance. Here I listed 5 of my ways to help you relax and unwind after a long day of work.

1. Don’t Bring Your Work Home

work at homeWork is work, and it is supposed to stay in your office (unless you are a business owner who can’t avoid after hour work). Bringing your work home, either paper works or emails will only contribute to your work, but not a relaxed night after a stressed long day. I am not saying that you should never try to show your boss your dedication for your work. You can do it once or twice a week, but when you already have a stressed long day, I recommend you leave the work till the morning. Not only should you not bring your work (physical things) home, but also you should not reply to business emails (not urgent ones) and worry about that ongoing project and the work you have not done.

2. Take a Warm Shower and Change into Comfortable Clothes

The first thing I do every day after I get home to be able to relax is to take a shower and change into my pajamas. A shower works wonders to relax your body as well as your mind after a long day. Then change into your favorite comfortable pajamas and have a relaxed night of movies. That definitely helps you relax and go back to work re-energized next day.

3. Stay Hydrated

When you are stressed, your body tends to become dehydrated. Therefore, you should drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated.

4. Meditate

MeditateI can’t stress this enough, meditation really helps you de-stress, relax and get clutter out of your brain. Clearing the clutter out of your mind every now and then is important and beneficial for your mental health. One advantage of meditation is that you don’t have to do it at a yoga class or retreat sessions, you can just put soothing music on and lay in bed and close your eyes. That is all you need. After 20 minutes, you are good to go and conquer the world again.

5. Get a Massage

If your job requires you to sit in your chair and in front of your computer all day, you must experience some sort of back pain or neck pain. A massage can help to relive the tension in your muscles at the mean time relax your mind. In addition to massage, Chinese acupuncture is also helpful for de-stressing and relaxing. Tao Acupuncture is a great and reputable acupuncturist clinic in Perth to get the best acupuncture.
